Panic prevailed in the Madras High Court following a murderous attack on a 55-year-old lawyer by his son on its premises.
Advocate A. Manimaaran, who occupies chamber No. 219 in the Additional
Law Chamber, was attacked by M. Rajesh with a sickle at 1.30 p.m.
Family feud
According to a senior police official, the attack was the result of a
family feud. Rajesh, who was born to the advocate’s first wife, had
visited his father in his chamber to discuss his sister’s marriage.
In the ensuing wordy duel, the son took out a sickle and slashed Manimaran on his head and face.
The incident has raised concerns about security inside the court complex.
The attack incidentally occurred a day after the First Bench of the HC
said that the proposal to extend the CISF cover to the premises is under
consideration. Advocates rushed the victim to the Government Rajiv
Gandhi Hospital, where doctors said he was due for surgery.
